Placement opportunities
We encourage our future engineers to be open to an international career, and have done so for the past 20 years. Students have to spend at least 3 months abroad all along their training programme. For this, we propose various mobility opportunities to the students. A number of internships can be carried out in a foreign country, as well as semesters of academic studies as a result of partnerships with 110 universities worldwide.
Timetable for CPE Lyon placements
End of year 3: SHOP-FLOOR WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT (5 ECTS CREDITS)
1 month placement in July and August.
Objective: to discover the organisation and mechanisms of the enterprise through a task that is usually entrusted to a blue collar worker or employee. The placement should be in a company that employs more than 50 people.
The student is supervised by the year tutor in the speciality concerned. Evaluation is based on: a written report, an oral presentation, the company’s assessment form, the evaluation report from the school and the jury attributing the ECTS credits.
End of Year 4:
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING PLACEMENT (15 ECTS CREDITS)
A 3 month placement from mid June to mid September. Objective: put the pupil’s knowledge into practice by working at the level of a “technician”.
The student is supervised by a tutor from the school. Evaluation is based on: a written report, the company’s assessment form, the evaluation report from the school and the jury attributing the ECTS credits.
LONG INTERNSHIP IN A COMPANY (15 ECTS OBLIGATORY CREDITS AND 45 OPTIONAL ECTS CREDITS)
Placement of 6 to 12 months from mid June to mid September of the following year between year 4 and year 5 of the engineer course. It may be completed in 12 months in the same enterprise or in two 6 month placements in two different enterprises, either in France and / or abroad.
Objective: to acquire professional competencies in scientific and technical areas of the course and an international culture for those doing the placement in another country.
The student is supervised by a tutor from the school. Evaluation is based on: a written report, the company’s assessment form, the evaluation report from the school and the jury attributing the ECTS credits.
End of Year 5: FINAL YEAR PROJECT (30 ECTS CREDITS)
6 month placement from February to July at the end of year 5 of the engineer course.
Objective: application of the course content to the study of a concrete problem by undertaking a mission at the level of a debutant engineer. It should comprise the bibliographic, scientific, technological and economic aspects of the subject.
The student is supervised by a tutor from the school. Evaluation is based on: a written report, an oral presentation, the company’s assessment form, the evaluation report from the school and the jury attributing the ECTS credits.
Financial & administrative aspects and visa requirements
The student remains an enrolled member of CPE Lyon during their internship. Students are paid at a rate agreed on by the parties concerned and are subject to insurance and tax deductions, as for other employees.
Visa applications are coordinated by CPE Lyon. The company is only required to fill out limited paperwork so as to certify the internship for the student.
